APEX expands services into social media
for professional organizations
Release: March 30,
2010
In the 25 years that
I have been involved in the media production field, the aspect
of my work I have found most fascinating is the dramatic
evolution of communication technology. When I started in
1985, the world was very different. We shot and edited on
the 3/4" U-Matic video format, there were only primitive
computers and DOS-based software, no one really know about the
internet, there were no cell phones, no DVDs, no Blue Ray, no
BlueTooth. Audio CDs were just arriving, high-definition
TV was years away, and we shot photos on 35mm film. That
has all certainly changed.
As new technologies
began to arrive, with them came changes to the services I was
able to provide. This process of adaptation has been
non-stop, and it continues to this day.
And now for the
latest change...social media.
Most everyone has
been aware of the rapid integration of social media into the
landscape of our world. Like other technological advances,
social media began more as a novelty, a method for college
students to share news, gossip and their activities. But
this technology is now maturing into something more - a new
paradigm of communication that shows promise for businesses and
other professional organizations.
But how can this
method of communication be effectively integrated with an
organization's outreach strategy. There is a lot more
involved than just creating a Facebook or Twitter account.
Without careful planning and implementation, the use of this
tool can be little more than a novelty, and even worse, it can
be an annoying source of information overload for those you are
trying to reach.
So, in keeping with
the ongoing metamorphosis of the services offered by APEX, I'm
pleased to announce that APEX is now offering social media
consultation services for professional organizations.
